1. Then one of those four went to the white cows, and taught them a mystery. While the cow was trembling, it was born, and became a man, ⁽⁹⁸⁾ and fabricated for himself a large ship. In this he dwelt, and three cows ⁽⁹⁹⁾ dwelt with him in that ship, which covered them.

1. And one of those four went to that white bullock, and taught him a mystery while he was trembling; he was born a bullock, and became a man, and he made for himself a large vessel, and lived in it; and three bullocks lived with him in that vessel, and it was covered over above them.

1. And one of those four went to that white bull and instructed him in a secret, without his being terrified: he was born a bull and became a man, and built for himself a great vessel and dwelt thereon; and three bulls dwelt with him in that vessel and they were covered in.

2. Again I lifted up my eyes towards heaven, and saw a lofty roof. Above it were seven cataracts, which poured fourth on a certain village much water.

2. And I again raised my eyes towards heaven, and saw a high roof and seven sluices to it; and those sluices emptied much water into a yard.

2. And again I raised mine eyes towards heaven and saw a lofty roof, with seven water torrents thereon, and those torrents flowed with much water into an enclosure.

3. Again I looked, and behold there were fountains open on the earth in that large village. The water began to boil up, and rose over the earth; so that the village was not seen, while its whole soil was covered with water.

3. And I saw again, and behold fountains were opened on the earth, in that great yard; and that water began to swell, and to be lifted above the land, and caused that yard to disappear, until all the land was covered with water.

3. And I saw again, and behold fountains were opened on the surface of that great enclosure, and that water began to swell and rise upon the surface, and I saw that enclosure till all its surface was covered with water.

3. Återigen såg jag upp, och se, der voro källor öppna i jorden uti denna stora by. Vattnet började att svalla upp, och steg öfver jorden, så att byn ej sågs, emedan hela dess mark betäcktes med vatten.

4. Much water was over it, darkness, and clouds. Then I surveyed the height of this water; and it was elevated above the village. It flowed over the village, and stood higher than the earth.

4. And the water and the darkness and the fog increased over it; and as I looked at the height of this water, this water was elevated over that yard, and emptied over the yard, and stood on the earth.

4. And the water, the darkness, and mist increased upon it; and as I looked at the height of that water, that water had risen above the height of that enclosure, and was streaming over that enclosure, and it stood upon the earth.

4. Mycket vatten var der äfven, och mörker och moln. Då betraktade jag höjden af detta vatten; och det var uppstiget öfver byn. Det flöt öfver byn och stod högre än jorden.

5. Then all the cows which were collected there, while I looked on them, were drowned, swallowed up, and destroyed in the water.

5. And all the bullocks which were in the yard were collected, so that I immediately saw how they sank down and came to naught, and were destroyed in that water.

5. And all the cattle of that enclosure were gathered together until I saw how they sank and were swallowed up and perished in that water.

5. Då blefvo alla de kor, som voro samlade der, medan jag såg på dem, fördränkta, uppslukade och förstörda i vatten.

6. But the ship floated above it. All the cows, the elephants, the camels, and the asses, were drowned on the earth, and all cattle. Nor could I perceive them. Neither were they able to get out, but perished, and sunk into the deep.

6. But that vessel swam on the water, and all the bullocks and elephants and camels and asses on the earth sank down, and all the animals; and I was not able to see them, and they were unable to come out, but were destroyed, and sank down into the abyss.

6. But that vessel floated on the water, while all the oxen and elephants and camels and asses sank to the bottom with all the animals, so that I could no longer see them, and they were not able to escape, (but) perished and sank into the depths.

6. Men skeppet flöt deruppå. Alla kor, elefanter, kameler och åsnor blefvo dränkta på jorden, och all boskap. Ej heller kunde jag blifva dem varse. Icke heller voro de i stånd att komma derifrån, utan förgingos och nedsjönko i djupet.

7. Again I looked in the vision until those cataracts from that lofty roof were removed, and the fountains of the earth became equalized, while other depths were opened;

7. And again I saw in the vision till those sluices were put away from that high roof, and the fountains of the earth dried up, and other abysses were opened.

7. And again I saw in the vision till those water torrents were removed from that high roof, and the chasms of the earth were levelled up and other abysses were opened.

7. Återigen såg jag i synen, tilldess vattenfallen från det höga taket upphörde, och jordens källor jemnades, medan andra djup blefvo öppnade,

8. Into which the water began to descend, until the dry ground appeared. The ship remained on the earth; the darkness receded; and it became light.

8. Then the water began to run into these till the earth became uncovered; but that vessel reached the earth, and the darkness retreated, and it became light.

8. Then the water began to run down into these, till the earth became visible; but that vessel settled on the earth, and the darkness retired and light appeared.

8. Uti hvilka vattnet började att nedrinna, till dess torra marken syntes. Skeppet qvarblef på jorden, mörkret återvände, och det blef ljus.

9. Then the white cow, which became a man, went out of the ship, and the three cows with him. One of the three cows was white, resembling that cow; one of them was red as blood; and one of them was black. And the white cow left them.

9. But that white bullock, which had become a man, came out of that vessel, and the three bullocks with him; and one of the three bullocks was white, similar to that [first] bullock, and one of them was red like blood, and one black; and that one, the white bullock, went away from them.

9. But that white bull which had become a man came out of that vessel, and the three bulls with him, and one of those three was white like that bull, and one of them was red as blood, and one black: and that white bull departed from them.

9. Då gick den hvita kon, som blifvit menniska, ut från skeppet, och de tre korna med henne. En af de tre korna var hvit liknande denna kon. En af dem var röd såsom blod, och en af dem var svart. Och den hvita kon lemnade dem.

10. Then began wild beasts and birds to bring forth. Of all these the different kinds assembled together, lions, tigers, wolves, dogs, wild boars, foxes, rabbits, and the hanzar. The siset, the avest, kites, the phonkas, and ravens. Then the white cow ⁽¹⁰⁰⁾ was born in the midst of them.

10. And they began to bring forth animals of the desert and birds, so that there arose out of them a varied diversity of kinds: lions and panthers and dogs and wolves and hyenas and wild boars and foxes and squirrels and hogs and falcons and vultures and buzzards and eagles and crows; and among them was born a white bullock.

10. And they began to bring forth beasts of the field and birds, so that there arose different genera: lions, tigers, wolves, dogs, hyenas, wild boars, foxes, squirrels, swine, falcons, vultures, kites, eagles, and ravens; and among them was born a white bull.

10. Då började vilda djur och foglar att komma fram. Af alla samlades de olika slagen tillhopa, lejon, tigrar, ulfvar, hundar, vildsvin, räfvar, kaniner och hanzar-djur. Siset- och avest-djur, hökar, phonkas och korpar. Då blef en hvit ko född midt ibland dem.

11. And they began to bite each other; when the white cow, which was born in the midst of them, brought forth a wild ass and a white cow at the same time, and after that many wild asses.

12. Then the white cow, ⁽¹⁰¹⁾ which was born, brought forth a black wild sow and a white sheep. ⁽¹⁰²⁾ That wild sow also brought forth many swine. And that sheep brought forth twelve sheep. ⁽¹⁰³⁾

12. But that bull which was born from him begat a black wild boar and a white sheep; and this wild boar begat many boars, but that sheep produced twelve sheep.

13. When those twelve sheep grew up, they delivered one of them ⁽¹⁰⁴⁾ to the asses. ⁽¹⁰⁵⁾ Again those asses delivered that sheep to the wolves, ⁽¹⁰⁶⁾ And he grew up in the midst of them.

13. And when these twelve sheep had grown, they gave one of them to the asses, and these asses then gave that sheep to the wolves, and that sheep grew up among the wolves.

14. Then the Lord brought the eleven other sheep, that they might dwell and feed with him in the midst of the wolves. They multiplied, and there was abundance of pasture for them.

14. And the Lord brought the eleven sheep to live with it, and to pasture with it among the wolves; and they increased, and became many herds of sheep.

15. But the wolves began to frighten and oppress them, while they destroyed their young ones. And they left their young in torrents of deep water. Now the sheep began to cry out on account of their young, and fled for refuge to their Lord.

15. And the wolves began to fear, and oppressed them till they [the wolves] finally destroyed their [i.e. the sheep's] young, and threw their young into a stream of much water; but these sheep began to cry aloud, on account of their young, before the Lord.

15. And the wolves began to fear them, and they oppressed them until they destroyed their little ones, and they cast their young into a river of much water: but those sheep began to cry aloud on account of their little ones, and to complain unto their Lord.

15. Men ulfvarna började att skräma och förtrycka dem, medan de förstörde deras afföda. Och de lade deras ungar i strömar af djupt vatten. Nu började fåren skrika för sin affödas skull, och flydde för att söka tillflygt hos sin Herre.

16. One ⁽¹⁰⁷⁾ however, which was saved, escaped, and went away to the wild asses. I beheld the sheep moaning, crying, and petitioning their Lord. With all their might, until the Lord of the sheep descended at their voice from his lofty habitation; went to them; and inspected them.

(107) Moses.

16. And a sheep which had been saved from the wolves fled, and escaped to the wild asses; and I saw the sheep as they lamented and cried and asked their Lord with all their power, till that Lord of the sheep descended at the voice of the sheep from his high abode, and came and looked after them.

16. And a sheep which had been saved from the wolves fled and escaped to the wild asses; and I saw the sheep how they lamented and cried, and besought their Lord with all their might, till that Lord of the sheep descended at the voice of the sheep from a lofty abode, and came to them and pastured them.

16. En *) blef dock räddad, flydde och gick bort till de vilda åsnorna. Jag såg fåren ropande, klagande och anropande sin Herre. Med all deras makt, till dess fårens Herre vid deras röst nedsteg från sin höga boning, gick till dem och öfversåg dem.

17. He called to that sheep which had secretly stolen away from the wolves, and told him to make the wolves understand that they were not to touch the sheep.

17. And he called to that sheep which had escaped from the wolves, and spoke with it concerning the wolves, that it should counsel them not to touch the sheep.

17. Han kallade till sig det får, som hade hemligen kommit från ulfvarna, och sade till detta, att det skulle låta ulfvarna förstå, att de ej finge röra fåren.

18. Then that sheep went to the wolves with the word of the Lord, when another met him, ⁽¹⁰⁸⁾ and proceeded with him. Both of them together entered the dwelling of the wolves; and conversing with them made them understand, that thenceforwards they were not to touch the sheep.

(108) Aaron.

18. And that sheep went to the wolves by the voice of the Lord; and another sheep met that sheep, and went with it, and these two came together to the abode of those wolves, and spoke with them, and admonished them that henceforth they should not touch the sheep.

18. And the sheep went to the wolves according to the word of the Lord, and another sheep met it and went with it, and the two went and entered together into the assembly of those wolves, and spake with them and admonished them not to touch the sheep from henceforth.

18. Då gick detta får till ulfvarna med Herrens ord, då ett annat **) får mötte det och gick med. Begge ingingo tillsammans uti ulfvarnes boning; och samtalande med dem, läto de dem förstå, att från den tiden skulle de icke röra fåren.

19. Afterwards I perceived the wolves greatly prevailing over the sheep with their whole force. The sheep cried out;

19. And then I saw the wolves, and how they exceedingly oppressed the sheep with all their power; and the sheep cried aloud.

19. And thereupon I saw the wolves, and how they oppressed the sheep exceedingly with all their power; and the sheep cried aloud.

19. Efteråt märkte jag, att ulfvarne med hela sin styrka fingo öfverhand öfver fåren. Fåren ropade,

20. and their Lord came to them. He began to strike the wolves, who commenced a grievous lamentation; but the sheep were silent, nor from that time did they cry out.

20. And their Lord came to the sheep, and began to beat those wolves, and the wolves began to lament; but the sheep became quiet, and from then on did not cry.

20. And the Lord came to the sheep and they began to smite those wolves: and the wolves began to make lamentation; but the sheep became quiet and forthwith ceased to cry out.

20. och deras Herre kom till dem. Han började att slå ulfvarna, hvilka läto höra en svår jämmer; men fåren förblefvo tysta, och från den stunden ropade de icke.

21. I then looked at them, until they departed from the wolves. The eyes of the wolves were blind, who went out and followed them with all their might.

21. And I saw the sheep till they had gone away from the wolves, and the wolves were blinded as to their eyes, and those wolves went out that they might follow the sheep with all their power.

21. And I saw the sheep till they departed from amongst the wolves; but the eyes of the wolves were blinded, and those wolves departed in pursuit of the sheep with all their power.

21. Jag såg då på dem, till dess de flyttade från ulfvarna. Ulfvarnes ögon blefvo förblindade, och de gingo ut och följde dem med all sin makt.

22. But the Lord of the sheep proceeded with them, and conducted them. All his sheep followed him. His countenance was terrific and splendid, and glorious was his aspect.

22. And the Lord of the sheep went with them, leading them, and all the sheep followed him; and his face was shining, and this appearance terrible and sublime.

22. And the Lord of the sheep went with them, as their leader, and all His sheep followed Him: and his face was dazzling and glorious and terrible to behold.

22. Men fårens Herre gick med dem och ledsagade dem. Alla hans får följde honom. Hans ansigte var förfärligt och lysande och herrlig var hans åsyn.

23. Yet the wolves began to follow the sheep, until they overtook them in a certain lake of water. ⁽¹⁰⁹⁾

24. Then that lake became divided; the water standing up on both sides before their face. And while their Lord was conducting them, he placed himself between them and the wolves.

24. And this sea of water was divided, and the water stood from this side and from that before their faces; and their Lord leading them stood also between them and the wolves.

24. Då skilde sig sjön åt. Vattnet stod upp på båda sidor framför deras ansigte. Och deras Herre, som ledsagade dem, ställde Sig sjelf imellan dem och ulfvarna.

25. The wolves however perceived not the sheep, but went into the midst of the lake, following them, and running after them into the lake of water.

25. And as those wolves did not yet see the sheep, they went into the middle of the sea of water; and the wolves followed the sheep, and ran after them into the sea of water.

25. And as those wolves did not yet see the sheep, they proceeded into the midst of that sea, and the wolves followed the sheep, and [those wolves] ran after them into that sea.

26. But when they saw the Lord of the sheep, they turned to fly from before his face. Then the water of the lake returned, and that suddenly, according to its nature. It became full, and was raised up, until it covered the wolves.

26. And when they saw the Lord of the sheep they turned that they might flee from before his face; but this sea of water gathered itself together, suddenly took again its own character, and the water swelled and rose till it covered those wolves.

26. And when they saw the Lord of the sheep, they turned to flee before His face, but that sea gathered itself together, and became as it had been created, and the water swelled and rose till it covered those wolves.

26. Men då de sågo fårens Herre, vände de om, för att fly för Hans ansigte. Då återvände vattnet i sjön, och det hastigt, enligt dess natur. Sjön blef full, och vattnet höjde sig, tilldess det öfvertäckte ulfvarna.

27. And I saw that all of them which had followed the sheep perished, and were drowned.

27. And I saw till all the wolves which had followed those sheep were destroyed, and sank down.

28. But the sheep passed over this water, proceeding to a wilderness, which was without both water and grass. And they began to open their eyes and to see. Then I beheld the Lord of the sheep inspecting them, and giving them water and grass. The sheep already mentioned was proceeding with them, and conducting them.

28. But the sheep escaped from that water, and went into the desert, where there was no water and no grass; and they began to open their eyes and to see; and I saw the Lord of the sheep pasturing them and giving them water and grass, and that [former] sheep going and leading them.

28. But the sheep escaped from that water and went forth into a wilderness, where there was no water and no grass; and they began to open their eyes and to see; and I saw the Lord of the sheep pasturing them and giving them water and grass, and that sheep going and leading them.

28. Men fåren gingo öfver detta vatten, och kommo till en öken, hvilken var utan både vatten och gräs. och de började öppna sina ögon och se. Då såg jag fårens Herre öfverskåda dem och gifva dem vatten och gräs. Då gick det redan omtalta fåret med dem och anförde dem.

29. And when he had ascended the top of the lofty rock, the Lord of the sheep sent him to them.

29. And this sheep ascended to the height of a high rock, and the Lord of the sheep sent it to them.

29. And that sheep ascended to the summit of that lofty rock, and the Lord of the sheep sent it to them.

29. Och då det hade uppstigit på en hög klippa, skickade fårens Herre det till dem.

30. Afterwards I perceived their Lord standing before them, with an aspect terrific and severe. And when they all beheld him, they were frightened at his countenance.

30. And after that I saw the Lord of the sheep as he stood before them; and his appearance was terrible and powerful, and all those sheep saw him, and were afraid before his face.

30. And after that I saw the Lord of the sheep who stood before them, and His appearance was great and terrible and majestic, and all those sheep saw Him and were afraid before His face.

30. Sedermera blef jag varse deras Herre stående framför dem med ett förfärligt och allvarsamt utseende. Och då de alla sågo Honom, blefvo de förfärade för Hans ansigte.

31. All of them were alarmed, and trembled. They cried out after that sheep; and to the other sheep who had been with him, and who was in the midst of them, saying, We are not able to stand before our Lord, or to look upon him.

31. And they were all afraid, and trembled before him, and cried after that sheep which was with him to the other sheep which was among them: "We are not able to exist before our Lord, or to look at him."

31. And they all feared and trembled because of Him, and they cried to that sheep with them [which was amongst them]: "We are not able to stand before our Lord or to behold Him."

31. Alla blefvo de orolige och darrade. De ropade efter fåret och till det andra fåret, som hade varit med det, och som var midt ibland dem, sägande: vi förmå icke att stå inför vår Herre eller att se på Honom.

32. Then that sheep who conducted them went away, and ascended the top of the rock; When the rest of the sheep began to grow blind, and to wander from the path which he had shown them; but he knew it not.

32. And that sheep which led them returned, and ascended to the height of that rock; but the sheep began to be blinded as to their eyes, and erred from the path which it had showed to them; but this sheep did not know it.

32. And that sheep which led them again ascended to the summit of that rock, but the sheep began to be blinded and to wander from the way which he had showed them, but that sheep wot not thereof.

32. Då gick det fåret bort, som anförde dem, och uppsteg på spetsen af klippan. Då började fåren att blifva blinda och afvika från den väg, som det visat dem; men fåret visste det icke.

33. Their Lord however was moved with great indignation against them; and when that sheep had learned what had happened, He descended from the top of the rock, and coming to them, found that there were many, Which had become blind; And had wandered from his path.

33. And the Lord of the sheep was enraged over them greatly; and that sheep discovered it, and descended from the height of the rock, and came to the sheep, and found the greater part of them blinded as to their eyes, and erring from his path.

33. And the Lord of the sheep was wrathful exceedingly against them, and that sheep discovered it, and went down from the summit of the rock, and came to the sheep, and found the greatest part of them blinded and fallen away.

33. Deras Herre blef likväl intagen af förtrytelse emot dem; och då fåret hade fått veta, hvad som tilldragit sig; Nedsteg det från spetsen af klippan; och då det kom till dem, fann det, att der voro många, Som hade blifvit blinda, Och hade afvikit från dess väg.

34. As soon as they beheld him, they feared, and trembled at his presence; And became desirous of returning to their fold,

34. And as they saw it they feared and trembled before its face, and desired to return to their folds.

35. Then that sheep, taking with him other sheep, went to those which had wandered. And afterwards began to kill them. They were terrified at his countenance. Then he caused those which had wandered to return; who went back to their fold.

35. And that sheep took other sheep with it, and came to those erring sheep; and then it began to kill them, and the sheep feared its countenance; and thus that sheep brought back those erring sheep, and they returned to their folds.

35. And that sheep took other sheep with it, and came to those sheep which had fallen away, and began to slay them; and the sheep feared its presence, and thus that sheep brought back those sheep that had fallen away, and they returned to their folds.

35. Då tog detta får med sig andra får och gick til dem, som hade afvikit, Och började sedan att döda dem. De blefvo förskräckta för dess ansigte. Då förmådde dem det, hvilka hade afvikit, at återvända, och de gingo tillbaka till sin fålla.

36. I likewise saw there in the vision, that this sheep became a man, built a house ⁽¹¹⁰⁾ for the Lord of the sheep, and made them all stand in the house.

36. And I saw there in the vision till that sheep became a man, and built the Lord of the sheep a house, and placed all the sheep in that house.

36. Likaledes såg jag der i synen, att detta får blef en menniska, byggde ett hus för fårens Herre och förmådde dem alla att stå i detta hus.

37. I perceived also that the sheep which proceeded to meet this sheep, their conductor, died. I saw, too, that all the great sheep perished, while smaller ones rose up in their place, entered into a pasture, and approached a river of water. ⁽¹¹¹⁾

50. And that house was made large and wide; a lofty tower being built upon it by the sheep, for the Lord of the sheep. The house was low, but the tower was elevated and very high. Then the Lord of the sheep stood upon that tower, and caused a full table to approach before him.

50. Och huset byggdes stort och vidlyftigt, ett högt torn uppbyggdes derpå utaf fåren för fårens Herre. Huset var lågt, men tornet var upphöjdt och ganska högt. Då stod fårens Herre på detta torn och lät et fullt bord frambäras för Sig.

51. Again I saw that those sheep wandered, and went various ways, forsaking that their house; And that their Lord called to some among them, whom he sent ⁽¹¹⁸⁾ to them. But these the sheep began to kill.

(118) The prophets.

51. And I again saw those sheep that they again erred, and went many ways, and left their house; and the Lord of the sheep called some from among them, and sent them to the sheep, but the sheep began to kill them.

52. And when one of them was saved from slaughter ⁽¹¹⁹⁾ he leaped, and cried out against those who were desirous of killing him. But the Lord of the sheep delivered him from their hands, and made him ascend to him, and remain with him.

(119) Elijah.

52. And one of them was saved, and was not killed, but escaped, and cried over the sheep; and they wanted to kill it, but the Lord of the sheep saved it out of the hands of the sheep, and brought it up to me, and caused it to dwell there.

52. And one of them was saved and was not slain, and it sped away and cried aloud over the sheep; and they sought to slay it, but the Lord of the sheep saved it from the sheep, and brought it up to me, and caused it to dwell there.

52. Och då en af dem blef räddad från mördandet, *) lopp han och klagade öfver dem, som ville mörda honom. Men fårens Herre befriade honom från deras händer och lät honom uppstiga till Sig och qvarblifva hos Sig.

And after that I saw, as they left the house of the Lord of the sheep and his tower, they departed entirely, and their eyes were blinded; and I saw the Lord of the sheep that he caused much death among them in each one of their herds, til these sheep even called for this death, and they betrayed his place.

54. And after that I saw that when they forsook the house of the Lord and His tower they fell away entirely, and their eyes were blinded; and I saw the Lord of the sheep how He wrought much slaughter amongst them in their herds until those sheep invited that slaughter and betrayed His place.

55. and left them in the power of lions, tigers, wolves, and the zeebt, ⁽¹²⁰⁾ and in the power of foxes, and of every beast. And the wild beasts began to tear them.

62. And each superabundance and the destruction which the shepherds do to these write down, how many they destroy by my command, and how many they destroy by their own will, and write down separately each destruction by each shepherd.

62. And every excess and the destruction which will be wrought through the shepherds, record (namely) how many they destroy according to my command, and how many according to their own caprice: record against every individual shepherd all the destruction he effects.

62. För hvarje öfverdåd och mord, som herdarne begå, skall ske redogörelse, nemligen huru många som omkommit på min befallning, och huru många de hafva förgjort efter sin egen vilja. För all den förödelse, som hvar och en af herdarne anställt, skall ske redogörelse;

63. and according to the number I will cause a recital to be made before me, how many they have destroyed of their own heads, and how many they have delivered up to destruction, that I may have this testimony against them; that I may know all their proceedings; and that, delivering the sheep to them, I may see what they will do; whether they will act as I have commanded them, or not.

And according to the number recite before me how many they have destroyed of their own account and how many were given them for destruction, that this may be a testimony for me against them, that I may know every deed of the shepherds to give them over, and may see what they do, whether they do my commands which I have commanded them or not.

64. Of this, however, they shall be ignorant; neither shall you make any explanation to them, neither shall you reprove them; but there shall be an account of all the destruction done by them in their respective seasons.

64. And they shall not know, and thou shalt not let them know nor admonish them, but write down all the destruction of the shepherds, each one in its time, and lay everything before me."

68. The shepherds likewise, and their associates, delivered them to all the wild beasts, that they might devour them. Each of them in his season, according to his number, was delivered up; each of them, one with another, was described in a book, how many of them, one with another, were destroyed, in a book.

68. And the shepherds and their companions delivered over those sheep to all the wild beasts to devour them, and each one of them received in his time a certain number, and of each one the other wrote down in a book how many he destroyed.

69. More, however, than was ordered, every shepherd killed and destroyed. Then I began to weep, and was greatly indignant, on account of the sheep.

And in the vision I saw that scribe as he wrote each one that was destroyed by those shepherds on each day and brought up and opened and showed this whole book to the Lord of the sheep, everything that they had done and every one that each single one had removed and every one that they had handed over for destruction,

And thus in the vision I saw that one who wrote, how he wrote down every one that was destroyed by those shepherds, day by day, and carried up and laid down and showed actually the whole book to the Lord of the sheep – (even) everything that they had done, and all that each one of them had made away with, and all that they had given over to destruction.

70. På lika sätt såg jag äfven i synen honom, som skref, huru han hvarje dag uppskref någon, som blifvit af herdarne förgjord. Han uppstod, qvarblef och framlemnade alla sina böcker till fårens Herre, innehållande allt, hvad de hade gjort, och alla de får, som en hvar hade dödat, Och alla dem, de hade lemnat åt förödelsen.

71. He took the book up in his hands, read it, sealed it, and deposited it.

71. And the book was read before the Lord of the sheep, and he took the book in his hand, and read it and sealed it and laid it down.

71. And the book was read before the Lord of the sheep, and He took the book from his hand and read it and sealed it and laid it down.

71. Han tog boken i sina händer, läste den, förseglade den och nedlade den.

72. After this, I saw shepherds overlooking for twelve hours. And behold three of the sheep ⁽¹²¹⁾ departed, arrived, went in; and began building all which was fallen down of that house. But the wild boars ⁽¹²²⁾ hindered them, although they prevailed not.

72. And after that I saw that shepherds pastured twelve hours, and behold, three of those sheep turned around and came and entered and began to build everything that was demolished of the house, but the wild boars attempted to hinder them, and they could not.

72. And forthwith I saw how the shepherds pastured for twelve hours, and behold three of those sheep turned back and came and entered and began to build up all that had fallen down of that house; but the wild boars tried to hinder them, but they were not able.

72. Härefter såg jag herdar, som hade öfverinseendet i tolf timmar. Och se, tre af fåren *) bortgingo, återkommo, gingo in, och började uppbygga allt, hvad som var nedfallet af huset. Men vildsvinen **) hindrade dem, ehuru de icke fingo öfverhanden.

73. Again they began to build as before, and raised up that tower, which was called a lofty tower. And again they began to place before the tower a table, with every impure and unclean kind of bread upon it.

73. And they again began to build, as before, and put up that tower, and it was called &”the high tower"; and they again began to place a table before that tower, and all the bread on it was unclean and not pure.

73. And they began again to build as before, and they reared up that tower, and it was named the high tower; and they began again to place a table before the tower, but all the bread on it was polluted and not pure.

73. Återigen började de att bygga, såsom tillförene, och uppförde tornet, hvilket blef kalladt ett högt torn. Och åter började de att ställa framför tornet ett bord med hvarjehanda orent och oheligt bröd derpå.

74. Moreover also all the sheep were blind, and could not see, as were the shepherds likewise. Thus were they delivered up to the shepherds for a great destruction, who trod them under foot, and devoured them.

74. And concerning all this the sheep were blinded as to their eyes, and did not see, and their shepherds likewise; and a great many were delivered to their shepherds for destruction, and they trod on the sheep with their feet and devoured them.

74. And as touching all this the eyes of those sheep were blinded so that they saw not, and (the eyes of) their shepherds likewise; and they delivered them in large numbers to their shepherds for destruction, and they trampled the sheep with their feet and devoured them.

74. Dessutom blefvo alla fåren blinda och kunde icke se; så blefvo herdarne äfvenledes. Sålunda blefvo de öfverlemnade åt herdarne till en stor förödelse, hvilka trampade dem under fötterna och uppslukade dem.

75. Yet was their Lord silent, until all the sheep in the field were destroyed. The shepherds and the sheep were all mixed together; but they did not save them from the power of the beasts.

75. And the Lord of the sheep remained quiet till all the sheep were scattered in the field and mixed themselves with them and did not save them from the hands of the wild beasts.

75. And the Lord of the sheep remained unmoved till all the sheep were dispersed over the field and mingled with them (i. e. the beasts), and they (i. e. the shepherds) did not save them out of the hand of the beasts.

75. Likväl var deras Herre tyst, tilldess alla fåren på marken voro förgjorda. Herdarne och fåren voro alla sammanblandade; men de kunde ej rädda dem från vilddjurens makt.

76. Then he who wrote the book ascended, exhibited it, and read it at the residence of the Lord of the sheep. He petitioned him for them, and prayed, pointing out every act of the shepherds, and testifying before him against them all.

76. And he who wrote the book brought it to the houses of the Lord of the sheep, and showed it and read it and petitioned him on their account and asked him, while showing him all the deeds of their shepherds and testifying before him against all the shepherds.

76. And this one who wrote the book carried it up, and showed it and read it before the Lord of the sheep, and implored Him on their account, and besought Him on their account as he showed Him all the doings of the shepherds, and gave testimony before Him against all the shepherds.

76. Då uppstod han, som skref boken, framvisade den, och läste den i fårens Herres boning. Han bönföll hos Honom för dem och bad, utvisande hvarje handling af herdarne och vittnande emot dem alla inför Honom.

77. Then taking the book, he deposited it with him, and departed.

77. And he took the book and laid it beside him, and departed.

77. Derpå tog han boken, nedlade den för Honom och bortgick.
