1. And I observed during the time, that thus thirty-seven ⁽¹²³⁾ shepherds were overlooking, all of whom finished in their respective periods as the first. Others then received them into their hands, that they might overlook them in their respective periods, every shepherd in his own period.

(123) Thirty-seven. An apparent error for thirty-five (see verse 7). The kings of Judah and Israel (Laurence, p. 139).

1. And I saw to the time when thirty-six shepherds thus pastured, and each one completed his time like the first; and others received them in their hands to pasture them in their time, each shepherd in his own time.

1. And I saw till that in this manner thirty-five shepherds undertook the pasturing (of the sheep), and they severally completed their periods as did the first; and others received them into their hands, to pasture them for their period, each shepherd in his own period.

2. Afterwards I saw in the vision, that all the birds of heaven arrived; eagles, the avest, kites and ravens. The eagle instructed them all. They began to devour the sheep, to peck out their eyes, and to eat up their bodies.

2. And after that I saw in the vision all the birds of heaven coming: the eagles and the vultures and the buzzards and the crows; but the eagles led all the birds; and they began to devour those sheep and to pick out their eyes and to devour their flesh.

4. And I looked, while the sheep were eaten up by the dogs, by the eagles, and by the kites. They neither left them their body, nor their skin, nor their muscles, until their bones alone remained; until their bones fell upon the ground. And the sheep became diminished.

4. And I saw until those sheep were devoured by the dogs and the eagles and the buzzards, and they did not leave on them meat or skin or muscles till the skeletons stood there alone, and the skeletons fell to the ground also, and the sheep became less.

5. And I saw to the time when twenty-three shepherds pastured, and they completed, each in his time, fifty-eight times.

6. Then were small lambs born of those white sheep; who began to open their eyes and to see, crying out to the sheep.

11. And besides this, all the eagles, the avest, the ravens and the kites, were still carrying off the sheep, flying down upon them, and devouring them. The sheep were silent, but the dabela lamented and cried out.

11. And with all that those eagles and vultures and crows and buzzards to that time were tearing those sheep to pieces, and flew down on them and devoured them; but the sheep remained quiet, and the bucks lamented and cried out.

11. And notwithstanding all this those eagles and vultures and ravens and kites still kept tearing the sheep and swooping down upon them and devouring them: still the sheep remained silent, but the rams lamented and cried out.

12. Then the ravens contended, and struggled with them. They wished among them to break his horn; but they prevailed not over him.

14. Then I perceived that the man came who had written down the names of the shepherds, and who ascended up before the Lord of the sheep. He brought assistance, and caused every one to see him descending to the help of the dabela.

14. And I saw till that man who had written down the names of the shepherds and brought them up to the Lord of the sheep came, and he helped that buck and showed it everything, that its help had come down.

14. And I saw till that man, who wrote down the names of the shepherds [and] carried up into the presence of the Lord of the sheep [came and helped it and showed it everything: he had come down for the help of that ram].

15. I perceived likewise that the Lord of the sheep came to them in wrath, while all those who saw him fled away; all fell down in his tabernacle before his face;

16. while all the eagles, the avest, ravens, and kites assembled, and brought with them all the sheep of the field. All came together, and strove to break the horn of the dabela.

17. Then I saw, that the man, who wrote the book at the word of the Lord, opened the book of destruction, of that destruction which the last twelve shepherds ⁽¹²⁶⁾ wrought; and pointed out before the Lord of the sheep, that they destroyed more than those who preceded them.

17. And I saw that man who had written the book by the voice of God till he opened that book of destruction which those last twelve shepherds had practiced, and showed that they had destroyed more that those before them, before the Lord of the sheep.

17. And I saw that man, who wrote the book according to the command of the Lord, till he opened that book concerning the destruction which those twelve last shepherds had wrought, and showed that they had destroyed much more than their predecessors, before the Lord of the sheep.

17. Då såg jag, att den man, som skref boken på Herrens befallning, öppnade boken af den förödelse, hvilken de tolf sista herdarne *) gjort, och utvisade för fårens Herre, att de förstört mer, än de, som föregått dem.

18. I saw also that the Lord of the sheep came to them, and taking in his hand the sceptre of his wrath seized the earth, which became rent asunder; while all the beasts and birds of heaven fell from the sheep, and sunk into the earth, which closed over them.

18. And I saw till the Lord of the sheep came to them and took the rod of anger in his hand, and struck the earth so that the earth was rent apart, and all the beasts and the birds of heaven fell away from those sheep, and sank down into the earth, and it was covered over them.

18. And I saw till the Lord of the sheep came unto them and took in His hand the staff of His wrath, and smote the earth, and the earth clave asunder, and all the beasts and all the birds of the heaven fell from among those sheep, and were swallowed up in the earth and it covered them.

18. Jag såg äfven, att fårens Herre kom till dem, tog i sin hand sin vredes spira och fattade jorden, hvilken remnade, medan alla vilddjuren och himmelens foglar föllo från fåren och nedsönko i jorden, hvilken slöt sig öfver dem.

19. I saw, too, that a large sword was given to the sheep, who went forth against all the beasts of the field to slay them. But all the beasts and birds of heaven fled away from before their face.

19. And I saw till a great sword was given to the sheep, and the sheep came to those wild beasts to kill them, and all the beasts and the birds of heaven fled from their face.

20. And I saw a throne erected in a delectable land; Upon this sat the Lord of the sheep, who received all the sealed books; Which were open before him.

20. And I saw till a throne was built on the earth in the pleasant land, and the Lord of the sheep sat upon it, and he took all the sealed books and opened those books before the Lord of the sheep.

20. And I saw till a throne was erected in the pleasant land, and the Lord of the sheep sat Himself thereon, and the other took the sealed books and opened those books before the Lord of the sheep.

21. Then the Lord called the first seven white ones, and commanded them to bring before him the first of the first stars, which preceded the stars whose form partly resembled that of horses; the first star, which fell down first; and they brought them all before him.

21. And the Lord called to those first six white ones, and commanded that they should bring to him, from the first star on, which had come forth, all the stars whose sexual members had been similar to the sexual members of horses, and also the first star that had first fallen; and they brought all before him.

21. And the Lord called those men the seven first white ones, and commanded that they should bring before Him, beginning with the first star which led the way, all the stars whose privy members were like those of horses, and they brought them all before Him.

21. Då kallade Herren de sju första hvita och befallde dem att föra framför Honom den första af de första stjernorna, hvilka gingo före de stjernor, hvilkas blygseldelar liknade hästars; den första stjernan, hvilken först nedföll; och de bragte dem alla inför Honom.

22. And he spoke to the man who wrote in his presence, who was one of the seven white ones, saying, Take those seventy shepherds, to whom I delivered up the sheep, and who receiving them killed more of them than I commanded.

22. And he said to that man who wrote before him, who was one of the six white ones, and said to him: "Take those seventy shepherds to whom I have delivered the sheep, and taking them, they of their own account killed more than I had commanded them."

22. And He said to that man who wrote before Him, being one of those seven white ones, and said unto him: "Take those seventy shepherds to whom I delivered the sheep, and who taking them on their own authority slew more than I commanded them."

23. Behold, I saw them all bound, and standing before him.

24. And the judgment was first over the stars, and they were judged and were found to be sinners, and went to the place of judgment and were thrown into an abyss filled with fire and burning and filled with pillars of fire.

24. And the judgement was held first over the stars, and they were judged and found guilty, and went to the place of condemnation, and they were cast into an abyss, full of fire and flaming, and full of pillars of fire.

24. Först företogs ransakningen med stjernorna, hvilka, sedan de blifvit dömda och funnits brottsliga, gingo till stället för sin bestraffning. De kastade dem i ett ställe djupt och fullt af lågande eld och fullt af eldpelare.

24. Och domen ägde rum först med stjärnorna, och de blefvo dömda och befunna skyldiga och gingo till fördömelsens ort och kastades i ett brinnande djup, uppfyllt med pelare af eld.

25. Then the seventy shepherds were judged, and being found guilty, were thrust into the flaming abyss.

25. And those seventy shepherds were judged and were found to be sinners, and THEY were thrown into this abyss of fire.

25. Sedan blefvo de sjuttio herdarne dömde, och som de funnos brottsliga, kastades de i en lågande afgrund.

26. At that time likewise I perceived, that one abyss was thus opened in the midst of the earth, which was full of fire. And to this were brought the blind sheep; which being judged, and found guilty, were all thrust into that abyss of fire on the earth, and burnt. The abyss was on the right of that house.

26. And I saw at that time that an abyss like it was opened in the middle of the earth, which was full of fire, and they brought those blinded sheep, and they all were judged and were found to be sinners, and were thrown into the abyss of fire and burned; and this abyss was to the right of that house.

26. And I saw at that time how a like abyss was opened in the midst of the earth, full of fire, and they brought those blinded sheep, and they were all judged and found guilty and cast into this fiery abyss, and they burned; now this abyss was to the right of that house.

26. På samma tid blef jag likaledes varse, att en afgrund sålunda öppnades i midten af jorden, hvilken var som full af eld. Och till denna bragtes de blinda fåren, hvilka, sedan de blifvit dömda och funna brottsliga, blefvo alla kastade i jordens af eld lågande afgrund, och brunno. Afgrunden var till höger om huset.

26. Och då såg jag hur ett dyligt svalg, i jordens midt, uppläts, fullt af eld, och de affälliga fåren blefvo framförda och dömda och befunna skyldiga och kastade i den brinnande afgrunden, och de brunno. Men det djupet (3) var till höger om den byggnaden (4).

27. And I saw the sheep burning, and their bones consuming.

28. I stood beholding him immerge that ancient house, while they brought out its pillars, every plant in it, and the ivory infolding it. They brought it out, and deposited it in a place on the right side of the earth.

28. And I stood looking till he enveloped that old house, and they took out all the pillars, and all the planks and the ornaments of that house were wrapped in with it, and they brought it out and put it in one place, on the right [i.e. south] of the earth.

28. And I stood up to see till they folded up that old house; and carried off all the pillars, and all the beams and ornaments of the house were at the same time folded up with it, and they carried it off and laid it in a place in the south of the land.

29. I also saw, that the Lord of the sheep produced a new house, great, and loftier than the former, which he bound by the former circular spot. All its pillars were new, and its ivory new, as well as more abundant than the former ancient ivory, which he had brought out.

29. And I saw the Lord of the sheep till he produced a new house, larger and higher than that first, and put it in the place of the first, which had been enveloped, and all its pillars were new, and the ornaments new and larger than of the first old one, which he had removed, and all the sheep were in its middle.

29. And I saw till the Lord of the sheep brought a new house greater and loftier than that first, and set it up in the place of the first which had beer folded up: all its pillars were new, and its ornaments were new and larger than those of the first, the old one which He had taken away, and all the sheep were within it.

29. Jag såg äfven, att fårens Herre frambragte ett nytt hus, stort och högre än det förra, hvilket han inskränkte inom det förra kretsformiga stället. Alla dess pelare voro nya och dess elfenben nytt samt i större överflöd än det förra gamla elfenbenet, hvilket de hade fört ut.

29. Och jag såg hur fårens Herre ditskaffade en ny byggnad, större och högre än den första, och uppreste den på samma plats, där den första stått. Alla dess pelare voro nya, likaså dess prydnader, och större än den gamlas, hvilka man fört bort, och alla fåren voro därinne.

30. And while all the sheep which were left were in the midst of it, all the beasts of the earth, and all the birds of heaven, fell down and worshipped them, petitioning them, and obeying them in everything.

30. And I saw all the sheep that had been left and all the animals on the earth and all the birds of the heavens, falling down and worshiping those sheep and petitioning and obeying them in every word.

30. And I saw all the sheep which had been left, and all the beasts on the earth, and all the birds of the heaven, falling down and doing homage to those sheep and making petition to and obeying them in every thing.

30. Och medan alla de får, hvilka blifvit öfriga, voro i midten deraf, föllo alla vilddjuren på jorden och alla himmelens foglar ned och tillbådo dem, anropande dem och lydande dem i allting.

31. Then those three, who were clothed in white, and who, holding me by my hand, had before caused me to ascend, while the hand of him who spoke held me; raised me up, and placed me in the midst of the sheep, before the judgment took place.

31. And after that those three who were dressed in white, who had led me up before, took me by the hand, and the hand of that buck taking hold of me, they raised me, and put me down in the midst of those sheep before the judgment took place.

31. And thereafter those three who were clothed in white and had seized me by my hand [who had taken me up before], and the hand of that ram also seizing hold of me, they took me up and set me down in the midst of those sheep before the judgement took place†.

31. Och därefter togo mig de trenne hvitklädda, som hade fört mig ditupp, vid handen, och när ynglingens* hand fattade min, förde de mig uppåt och nedsatte mig midt ibland de fåren, innan domen ägde rum.

33. Då samlades i detta hus alla de, som hade förgåtts och blifvit förgjorde, hvarje vilddjur på marken och hvarje fogel i himmelen, under det fårens Herre glädde sig med stor fröjd, emedan alla voro goda och kommo tillbaka till hans boning.

33. Och alla som gått under och alla förskingrade och djuren på fältet och fåglarna under himmelen församlade sig i den boningen, och fårens Herre fröjdade sig storligen, emedan de alla voro goda och återvände till hans hus.

34. And I saw that they laid down the sword which had been given to the sheep, and returned it to his house, sealing it up in the presence of the Lord. All the sheep would have been inclosed in that house, had it been capable of containing them;

34. Och jag såg, att de nedlade svärdet, som hade blifvit gifvet åt fåren, och återburo det till Hans hus, förseglande det i Herrens närvaro. Alla fåren skulle hafva blifvit inneslutne i detta hus, om det hade varit tillräckligt att rymma dem;

34. Och jag såg huru fåren nedlade det svärd, som gifvits dem, och buro det tillbaka in i hans hydda och hur man förseglade det inför Herrens ansikte. Och alla fåren blefvo införda i den byggnaden, och den rymde dem icke.

35. and the eyes of all were open, gazing on the good One; nor was there one among them who did not behold him.

37. Jag såg äfven, att en hvit ko blef född, hvars horn voro stora, och att alla vilddjuren på marken och himmelens foglar blefvo förskräckta för den och anropade den alla stunder.

37. Och jag såg, att en hvit tjur** med stora horn vardt född, och alla djuren på fältet och alla himmelens fåglar fruktade honom och anropade honom alltid.

38. Then I saw that the nature of all of them was changed, and that they became white cows; And that the first, who was in the midst of them, spoke, when that word became ⁽¹²⁷⁾ a large beast, upon the head of which were great and black horns; While the Lord of the sheep rejoiced over them, and over all the cows.

38. And I saw till all their generations were changed, and they all became white bullocks, and the first one of them [was the word, and that word] was a great animal, and had on its head large and black horns; and the Lord of the sheep rejoiced over them and over all the bullocks.

39. I lay down in the midst of them: I awoke; and saw the whole.

41. Afterwards I wept abundantly, nor did my tears cease, so that I became incapable of enduring it. While I was looking on, they flowed on account of what I saw; for all was come and gone by; every individual circumstance respecting the conduct of mankind was seen by me.

41. And then I cried greatly, and my tears did not stand still till I was not able to endure it; when I looked they flowed on account of that which I saw, because everything will come and be fulfilled; and all the deeds of men in their order appeared to me.

41. Then I wept with a great weeping and my tears stayed not till I could no longer endure it: when I saw, they flowed on account of what I had seen; for everything shall come and be fulfilled, and all the deeds of men in their order were shown to me.

41. Sedan gret jag ymnigt, och mina tårar upphörde icke, så att jag icke var istånd att uthärda det. Då jag skådade, flöto de, i anledning af hvad jag såg; ty allt hade kommit och försvunnit, hvarje enskild omständighet i menniskoslägtets förhållande var sedd af mig.

41. OCh därefter började jag häftigt gråta, och mina tårar runno, tills jag ej längre kunde stå ut därmed. De strömmade ned med anledning af det jag såg, ty allt detta skall ske och gå i fullbordan. Och alla människornas framtida gärningar hafva blifvit mig visade.

42. In that night I remembered my former dream; and therefore wept and was troubled, because I had seen that vision.
