The Gift of Speaking in Tongues

The Gift of Speaking in Tongues is the only gift of the Holy Spirit, which you can use to know that you are constantly in the Spirit. Nobody prophesies all the time, nobody is healing all the time, nobody is operating in the gift of faith all the time (even if we always can and shall have faith, but that's not the same as the gift), nobody is interpreting all the time, but everyone can have the gift of speaking in tongues working all the time. This gift is like the motor running in your car. It can go on empty-drive, or it can go on medium or over drive. You can always check things you think or say, or write, with the tongues. It functions as an indicator. If your thoughts are from God, the tongues will flow freshly, if your thoughts are your own or in error, the tongues will go down, or not work at all.

This means that this gift is absolutely essential to have a working spiritual life, in your everyday walk with Jesus. You will always be aware of the supernatural, which is a bolster for the faith, and a great comfort (He IS our comforter), and you will have guidance, always present.

This is most certainly why the apostle Paul wrote that he spoke more in tongues than anyone. He was constantly in need of God's guidance. Besides that, if you start doing this, you will get so used to it, that life will be totally empty without it. And not just empty, but fruitless, worthless, meaningless. For without the Holy Spirit working in and through us, our work is of no eternal value. It may look nice and very religious, even very radical, biblical, but if it is not driven by the gifts of the Spirit, it is of no value before God.

Now, there are of course Christians that are baptised in the Holy Spirit, that don't speak in tongues like this all the time, but are operating in other gifts, and doing God's work through them. This is not a condemnation of anyone who doesn't speak in tongues. It's just an explanation of how wonderful this gift is, and what great benefits it has. And of course, it is not meant as the sole gift a Christian has to have. If used publicly, it should always be coupled with the gift of interpretation. But in your personal life, in your prayer life, in your walk with God, in Jesus, it is the most convincing (and comforting) presence of the Holy Spirit we can have. It's a constant miracle working in you, with you, through you, for you.

- and for others. Because that's the whole point of it, that your gifts shall be of benefit also for others. And they will. If you have them working in you, where you go, you cannot but be a blessing to others. It's no strive, it's just a natural flow from your life. Your presence will be felt, will drive away darkness, will flow into people's lives. Your prayers will be powerful and efficient, and your words will be convincing, and warm, full of the life and love of Jesus.
