11. Since they were not created, except that, like the angels, they might remain righteous and pure. Nor would death, which destroys everything, have effected them; But by this their knowledge they perish, and by this also its power consumes them.

For man was not created otherwise than the angels, that they should remain just and pure, and death, which destroys all things, would not have touched them, but through this their knowledge they are destroyed, and through this power it devours me.

For men were created exactly like the angels, to the intent that they should continue pure and righteous, and death, which destroys everything, could not have taken hold of them, but through this their knowledge they are perishing, and through this power it is consuming me†.

Emedan de endast voro skapade för att, likasom änglarne, förblifva rättfärdiga och rena. Aldrig skulle döden, hvilken förstörer all ting, hafva träffat dem. Men genom denna deras kunskap förgås de, och äfven genom deras makt blifva de förtärde.
